My approach is to make lessons fun and enjoyable, and to allow each student to feel confident in their ability to learn. At every level, every player, including me, always has something that they should try to improve, making each court visit an adventure.

I’ve been teaching for almost a decade, although I got USPTA certification in 2018. In addition to my private clients, I have been lucky enough to teach for various organizations and schools.

I have been teaching for Newport Recreation Department since 2020 from April to August each year with around 50 students each week aged 4 to 74. For the last 2 years we have also run an indoor skills program in ‘The Hut’, the Rec’s wonderful gym in winter. This is on hold due to construction work at Roger’s High School meaning the gym is required for their use, but we hope to start again next year.

I teach at Tennis Rhode Island East Bay in Seekonk for head coach Steve Sapolsky in his junior program during the winter months and on weekends throughout the year, developing skills in the younger program kids.

I’ve been a high school coach for 5 years, first at St Mary’s Bay View in 2019, and from 2020 to date have been the Barrington High School JV coach. Each season, I focus on skills and general improvement with the aim of feeding students into the highly successful Varsity team run by the recent coach Betsy Brenner and the new coach for the past 2 years, Polly Danyla (who has just led her team to win state champs – woohoo!).

In fall 2024 I started lessons for a range of age groups and levels for Portsmouth Recreation Department at Portsmouth high school on weekends. Long may it continue!

The best time to start playing tennis if you haven’t already is today! It isn’t just a sport, it’s a new social life with comradery, friendly rivalry, and a whole lot of laughs, (and yes some mortification too when you flub that perfect set-up – we have ALL been there).

Only a very few people get to the heights of Wimbledon or the US Open, but millions of people around the world support the tennis industry with lessons, leagues and tournaments which are a whole world unto themselves and I’m proud to be part of the whole shindig.
